A meeting of beard enthusiasts was interrupted by terror police in Sweden this week after someone called to report that ISIS was having a gathering. The group was actually the Swedish chapter of the “Bearded Villains,” an organization apparently dedicated to beard appreciation. They were meeting for a photo shoot, were dressed in formal clothing, and were carrying a flag that had their logo on it.
“Originally Established in 2014 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. with the purpose of showcasing the bearded men with character from your next door neighbor to the supermodel on GQ mag. Our Brotherhood has grown WORLDWIDE now and organically took shape of its own. We have Chapters in Germany, Canada , Greece, Netherlands, Australia, Mexico, 25 states in the U.S. and all over The U.K. to name a few. Our Chapter’s activities are Charity Work, Support, Respect, and Loyalty to THE BROTHERHOOD.”
Bearded Villains member Andreas Fransson was at the photo shoot when the police arrived, and later told the Independent that “After about an hour the police showed up. They told us they got a call from someone driving past on the highway, saying that there were Isis terrorists at the ruins.”
“The police saw of course that we weren’t terrorists, just very happy and nice bearded gentlemen,” he added.
One of the group’s leaders, John Ekeblad, pointed out that bearded men are often discriminated against, and this situation is a perfect example of one of the stigmas associated with beards.
“It’s one of the foundations of our brotherhood, that you should not judge others before you know the facts. It’s the same with beards – each and every day you hear someone say you are a terrorist,” he said.
